RECRUITMENT INITIATIVES

 

1.       E.E.O. Public Service announcements ran on WPTQ-FM, WHHT-FM, and WCDS-AM during April 2015 through March 2016.  These are announcements intended to reach organizations or job seekers, informing them of employment opportunities or to contact us if they would like to receive job vacancy notices.  They also announce to the public that we are an equal opportunity employer.

2.      Sent notification letter to the following potential Recruitment Sources:

WKU School of Journalism and Broadcasting

Western Kentucky University Career Services

Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce

Asian American Broadcasting, Inc.

Murray State University Career Center

Glasgow Area Career Center

Bowling Green Area Career Center

American Urban Radio Networks

KBA—Kentucky Broadcasting Association

Glasgow/Barren County Chamber of Commerce

3.      Continued Partnership with Barren County High School Broadcasting Club (founded by Commonwealth Broadcasting.)

4.      Spoke to the Barren County High School Broadcasting Club about pursuing a career in broadcasting.

5.      Tours of our broadcasting studios and offices by students from Barren County High School Broadcasting Club who were interested in careers in broadcasting.

6.      Cooperative program the Barren County High School’s program known as The Phoenix Academy.  We accept students into a cooperative work program to give them experience in the broadcasting industry.

7.      Tours of our broadcasting studios and offices by Red Cross Elementary.

8.      Gave tours of our studios to students in the Leader in Me Program with whom we are partnered at North Jackson Elementary.

9.      Partnered with Hart County High School Agriculture Department for tours of the studios, allowing them time on the air to promote the Ag Community.

10.  Partnered with Barren County High School Agriculture Department for tours of the studios, allowing them time on the air to promote the Ag Community.

11.  JULY 2015 - Steve Newberry and Derron Steenbergen spoke to a group of Western Kentucky University students on behalf of the KBA WKU Radio Talent Institute about the opportunities on careers in broadcasting.

12.  Community Partnership co-op/Intern Program at the South Central Kentucky Community and Technical College.  We consistently accept student interns who are interested in radio.

13.  Exhibitor at the Southern Kentucky Expo where we were contacted by persons interested in radio broadcasting careers and where we distributed employment information.

14.  Derron Steenbergen met with a class of broadcasting students at Western Kentucky University to discuss career opportunities in radio.

15.  Kellie Wood attended Career Fair at North Jackson Elementary to discuss careers in broadcasting to students.

16.  Career Fair was held at Temple Hill Elementary in October 2015 and attended by Kellie Wood and Derron Steenbergen.  They spoke to students about the various career opportunities in radio broadcasting.

17.  April 2015 through May 2015 – Greg Bowen, Sales Manager, visited the Barren County Trojan Academy each Friday morning where he discussed radio broadcasting careers with the Freshmen there.

18.  September 2015 through October 2015 – Greg Bowen was in attendance at the Barren County Trojan Academy each Friday where he described various career opportunities in radio broadcasting and the educational needs for each.

19.  October 2015 and February 2016 – Greg Bowen attended career fairs at Campbellsville University in Campbellsville, Kentucky. During the fairs he discussed the specific qualities required to be an employee of Commonwealth Broadcasting as well as an overview of broadcasting general educational requirements

20.  February 2016 through March 2016 – Greg Bowen spoke with Freshmen at Barren County’s Trojan Academy about the educational needs for various careers in radio broadcasting.

21.  March 2016 – Derron Steenbergen interacted with students at Eastern Elementary School in Barren County about the different types of careers in radio broadcasting.

9.      Continued partnership with the Western Kentucky University broadcasting department’s Internship Program.
