Coldplay wrote a song inspired by Ralph Macchio’s beloved movie character, Daniel LaRusso, so when the band decided to make a music video for “The Karate Kid,” it was only fitting that they asked Macchio to take part. The track, which appears on the expanded Full Moon edition of the band’s recent Billboard 200 No. 1 album, Moon Music, pays tribute to the heroism and bravery of Daniel from 1984’s original The Karate Kid film. “When Chris Martin pops up on your FaceTime asking you to help create a video to accompany what I found to be a beautifully emotional and poignant song – one inspired by a film I made over 40 years ago – there was only one answer,” said the 63-year-old Macchio, who portrays a struggling street busker in the Chris Candy-directed clip. The group filmed portions of the video during their October 31 show at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium, with special guest Macchio joining the band on stage to the surprise of the sold-out crowd.
