Kansas vocalist Ronnie Platt has just revealed that he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer on February 11. Due to Platt’s health concerns, the band has cancelled two upcoming shows while he undergoes surgery to remove the thyroid. On his Facebook page, Platt reassured fans by noting the 99% survival rate, while sharing that the cancer “has not spread. It’s contained to my thyroid.” The singer went on to write that he “sincerely appreciates everyone’s positive thoughts and prayers,” while trying to downplay his diagnosis, by saying it’s “just a bump in the road and will be behind me very soon! So everyone, please CARRY ON!” Since joining Kansas in 2014, Platt has been a key member of the band, contributing to their recent albums and live performances. Despite the setback, Kansas is scheduled to continue their tour, including appearances on the ’70s Rock & Romance Cruise in mid-March, and over 20 US tour dates planned throughout the year.
